Posted on: Saturday 8 March 2025
Join us in celebrating International Women’s Day on Saturday 8 March 2025, as we honour the achievements of women in pharmaceutical medicine, celebrate their contributions, and take meaningful action towards greater gender equity.
FPM Voices
FPM Voices is a Q&A interview series that shines a spotlight on the careers and insights of senior and influential pharmaceutical physicians. Through these conversations, we aim to provide colleagues with a deeper understanding of the opportunities, challenges, and rewards of pharmaceutical medicine.
Each interview explores personal career journeys, key lessons learned, and the role that FPM has played in shaping professional growth.
Dr Sheuli Porkess, President of FPM shares her journey into pharmaceutical medicine, how she has inspired others in the specialty and her thoughts on driving meaningful change.
Dr Emma Harvey FFPM, Vice-President of FPM shares insights into her inspiring career journey, how she has navigated challenges, and what a typical week in her role looks like.
Fellowship of FPM (FFPM)
Fellowship recognises achievement at a high level in the profession and confers peer recognition. It is not dependent on time served as a Member of FPM (MFPM).
Last year, we revised our Fellowship criteria and welcomed 62 new Fellows. But a clear imbalance emerged – though our membership is 60% men and 40% women, only 14% of Fellowship applicants and nominees were women. Let’s change that. If you’re eligible, we encourage you to apply!
Additionally, we invite you to read our report outlining key findings, challenges and actionable steps to promote greater gender inclusivity.

Listen to our Chief Executive, Dr Marcia Philbin, on #SHECAN’s podcast as she discusses more about her background, vision for women in science, leadership style, challenges and more.
Reaching gender parity amongst doctors with a licence to practise
The General Medical Council (GMC)’s November 2024 report, The State of Medical Education and Practice: Workforce Report, highlighted the close point of parity. It revealed that ethnic minority doctors now outnumber white doctors with a licence to practise in the UK. Alongside this, the GMC has just confirmed another significant milestone.
The GMC has announced that 2025 marks the achievement of gender parity on the medical register. The data show that there are now more female than male doctors with a licence to practise in the UK. This is a significant milestone which demonstrates how much the composition of the medical workforce has changed over recent years.
