FPM welcomes the news that Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed has been appointed by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care as Chair of the Commission on Human Medicines (CHM).
Munir is a great clinical pharmacologist and geneticist who has helped introduce genetics into the prescribing of medicines. For his achievements, FPM awarded Munir an Honorary Fellowship in 2017 and he recently delivered a captivating plenary talk at the 2020 FPM Annual Symposium. He holds the David Weatherall Chair in Medicine at the University of Liverpool and is a Consultant Physician at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is also the President of the British Pharmacological Society and was until recently a CHM Commissioner and Vice Chair.
This is a challenging time for the CHM in its role of advising the Licensing Authority (the UK Health Ministers) and the MHRA, and keeping the role of medicines and devices regulation under constant scrutiny. FPM congratulates and offers its support to Munir in this important role for the UK.
