Pharmaceutical Medicine Specialty Training
FPM coordinates Pharmaceutical Medicine Specialty Training (PMST), which is a four-year specialty training programme that equips pharmaceutical physicians with the with specialist knowledge and capabilities to practise for the benefit and safety of patients, in the development and maintenance of medicines.
Pharmaceutical physicians undertaking PMST are represented on FPM’s Trainees Committee. Read more about the committee’s remit and activities here.
Examinations
FPM also sets the curricula for and organises five examinations relating to pharmaceutical medicine.
Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine
Achieving a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine (DPM) is a defining moment in the career of any pharmaceutical physician. It affirms their knowledge and expertise in our specialty, and their commitment to enhancing the health of society.
It also opens up the opportunity to become an FPM Member (MFPM) and, ultimately, a Fellow (FFPM), accolades that are held by some of the most exceptional and innovative pharmaceutical physicians in the world.

Part 1 of the DPM, open to medics and non-physicians
Diploma in Human Pharmacology
The Diploma in Human Pharmacology programme is intended for medical doctors training to take on the responsibilities of a principal investigator (PI) for human pharmacology studies of investigational medicinal products (IMPs), in particular those involving the first administration to humans.
Certificate in Human Pharmacology
The Certificate in Human Pharmacology programme for doctors and scientists to attain and demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of exploratory studies of investigational medicinal products (IMPs) in man. Completion of the course will enable you to ask the right questions, anticipate and address potential issues, learning from the experience of others.
